Sugarfoot

Listening to “Sugarfoot” by Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. Appropriate.

Working very quickly, I took 5 very full and heavy frames full of honey. Replaced the old frames with the new ones I made today.

Scraped all capped honey into a bucket with a mesh strainer.

First pic is a frame with brood at the top (brown cells) and capped cells with honey in the lower area. I checked the brood

and all looks good (no mites).

Second pic is honey pouring from the uncapped cells.

Third pic is beautiful, beautiful, organic, delicious honey.

THANK YOU BEES!

Once In A While

Listening to Eddie Vedder’s “Ukelele Songs”. Great little album!

OK, I’ve been REALLY busy and preoccupied with gardening, organizing, dog/cat/house sitting.

I’ll post pics of gardens very soon.

However, today I will be taking some of the honey from my bee hive. I’ve begun listening to and watching

the Backwards Beekeeper, a great guy in LA who keeps bees and has a very nice, laid back approach to his bees.

I am switching out the commercial wax frames with open frames I made from regular frames and paint stirrers.

I fit the paint stirrers into the new frames and then sealed them with some wax from my own hive.

Here is the link to his video that ‘splains why this might be a good idea:

So You Want It To Rain

Listening to Doyle Bramhall II and Smokestack.

Yes, and it is raining! Finally getting some much needed moisture to our dry, dry state.

And I am finally embarking on a new/old project.

I have had the idea to make these one of a kind art boxes…journey boxes, memory boxes, whatever boxes. Seriously I began to form this idea in 2003.

So, today I am free stitching an imaginary topo map onto muslin and then hand coloring it.

This will give you an idea….

In The Garden

Listening to “In The Garden” by Double Trouble.

OK, now have garden #2 planted. Beets, carrots, arugala, kale, Swiss chard, spinach, 2 rows of mixed greens,

radishes, and peas.

Garlic coming up nicely (planted last October).

:)

Little By Little

Listening to Gregg Allman’s “Low Country Blues”.

OK, well I finally tackled a small project and it looks great!

About 6 months ago I purchased the coolest set of coat/hat hooks from One King’s Lane.

The project was to cut off the wooden dowels that were on the current 70′s style coat rack, sand it down, paint and then install the new hooks.

I used a hack saw to cut off the dowels, then an electric hand sander to smooth everything down, then 3 coats of white paint for a fresh new look.

Then my neighbor helped to hold the rack while I attached with wood screws and VOILA!

I am so happy!!!

Into The Great Wide Open

Listening to Tom Petty today.

I’ve been anxious to make a beach bag from this great striped fabric I’ve been hanging on to for a while.

I used a pattern called “Martha’s Market Bag” from Patternspot:  http://patternspot.com

Ready for the beach!!!

Thank U

Listening to Alanis Morrisette this afternoon.

I have finally finished my first custom top!!! A huge “Thank U” to Patty Elliott of Patty Elliott’s Alterations. She made a custom pattern for me that will fit and that I can use to customize store bought patterns. I am so pleased!!!

Here is the custom pattern as I’m cutting the silk and here is the finished product. Big smile!!!

Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat

Listening to the amazing Raphael Saddiq from “Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan”. This collection is honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International. Wow!

I made this little hat out of some recycled chair upholstery fabric and added a little “Fez flair” on the top.

Hope you like it.

Stray Cat Blues

Listening to The Rolling Stones this morning.

This sweet pillow was made as a “Remembrance Pillow” for the daughter of a dear friend.

Initially I thought this was quite a challenge because her room was decorated in pink, burgundy and lime green!

Wow… but thankfully my local Hancock Fabrics always has an awesome selection of fabric. I was able to find some perfect

pieces that blended nicely.

I used PhotoShop to make each of the photos “match” so they’d look OK together  (hue and lighting, etc…).

What do you think?

Cowgirl In The Sand

Listening to Neil Young. One of my favorite albums…

This is a wonderfully fun pillow I made for my favorite cowgirl, Emily Kitching.

Emily is the hard working owner of The Eclectic Horseman magazine and on-line shop.
